A community pride endeavor, the Schenectady Smiles Photo Contest is accepting photos of our beautiful community in the City of Schenectady.

Who can participate?
Amateur and professional photographers alike are invited to submit photos. Participants must be older than 13 years of age. Each participant may submit up to 5 photos per category.

What should the subject of the photos be?
The photo contest will accept photos of Schenectady, NY illustrating these five categories:

• Diversity (people, places, art, culture, food)
• Community vitality (vibrant places, retail, neighborhood pride)
• Natural environment (rivers, preserves, parks, sky, wildlife)
• Architecture/urban design (plazas, buildings, neighborhoods, boulevards)
• Business & organizations (community organizations, small businesses)

Are there prizes?
Yes! When the contest ends on July 27th a committee of volunteer judges will meet and select a first and second place winner for each category. Prizes from local businesses and community groups will be awarded to the winners. The photographers will also be recognized at a community celebration called the Schenectady Smiles Pep Rally to be held at Schenectady City Hall on August 17th. The winning photographs will be installed in an exhibit at City Hall.

Can I vote for my favorite photos?
Yes! A people's choice award will be given within each of the five categories, which will be determined by online voting for the two weeks following the submission period.
